Riversol and Beauty Night Society have partnered together to help change the lives of women and youth living in poverty.

This volunteer-run, registered Canadian charity provides three unique programming streams: Wellness, Life Skill Development and Makeovers to create a veritable life-makeover for participants.

Participants come in, be accepted as who they are today, make friends, learn new skills and connect to services and opportunities to become leaders in their own community.

Like Beauty Night, we believe that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect. Regardless of socioeconomic status, no one should be invisible or isolated from their community.

A makeover is a great opportunity to reintroduce healthy touch in a non-threatening way and build relationships based on trust with the participants. Through the Makeover program and Life Skill Development program, Beauty Night is able to connect participants with resources to help them move forward in their life.

Over the past 11 years, Beauty Night has provided over 16,000 life-makeovers to participants thanks to over 500 volunteers who come out every week to donate their time and support.

The main challenge is that the women who participate in Beauty Night not only deal with poverty issues, they also lack personal confidence, which can be difficult to see.  Low self-esteem, however, is apparent in the women’s behavior and often prevents them from making positive changes.  Through volunteering our time and donating video equipment, Riversol contributes to building their self-esteem by providing a platform to allow these women to share their stories with other participants about what inspires them and makes them feel beautiful.  Being able to have their voice heard is important as often these women can feel invisible and marginalized in their communities.
